Post-NovSSCW Analysis: All US states contacted!!! Only US section missing was NNY. Missed several up in Canada. QSLs have been sent out but I need to get some returns before I complete my goal of getting the Worked All States (WAS) Award in 2008. I enclosed SASEs in hopes that will expedite a QSL return. Thanks all! |

The November, 2008 issue of QST, a publication of the American Radio Relay League (ARRL), has the following in the "Media Hits" column: "Even if not in the immediate hurricane zone, local media was interested in what their local hams were doing. KOAT-TV, Channel 7 (Albuquerque, MN) had a segment about us...." Now I'm pretty sure that Minnesota doesn't have a town named Albuquerque. A quick search for KOAT on the internet confirmed that it is a local TV station in Albuquerque, New Mexico. |

I have always been a fan of the State QSO Parties, so when ARRL declared 2009 the Year of the State QSO Party, I was elated! ARRL has made this declaration in order to promote the smaller amateur radio contests, and the organizations supporting them. As they note, there are no currently scheduled QSO Parties in the following states: Alaska, Iowa, Kansas, New York, North Dakota, and South Dakota. As they fail to note, New Mexico has not held a QSO Party since 2006. New Mexico is one I would like to see in particular, as I would like to travel and operate portable in that beautiful state. See below for the known QSO Parties. If you see any errors, please let me know! |

Sweepstakes is coming! The CW contest will be held Nov 1-3, with the SSB contest held Nov 15-17. I hope to have a voice keyer completed in time for the SSB contest, but with contests every weekend between now and then, I'll have trouble finding the time.

Contest Season is reaching a high pitch, with the CQ WW SSB Contest last weekend, Nov Sweepstakes CW this coming weekend, and more CQ WW and Nov Sweepstakes ahead. I didn't think my results were that bad in the CQ WW SSB, but it looks pretty lame when put on a map. There was more 15m activity during this contest than the whole rest of the year combined! Maybe the new sunspot cycle didn't stall out, after all! Claimed score: 12,240 QSOs: 81 (4 on 40m, 36 on 20m, 41(!) on 15m) Countries: 38 I used the Catalina Radio Club's Kenwood TS-140S for a few hours at the beginning of the contest, but reverted back to my old Kenwood TS-520 which I'm more familiar with. The portable G5RV antenna was constant throughout the contest.
